The inhabitants of the Upper City live in luxury high above the clouds, while those of the Lower City struggle to survive in a wasteland overrun by monstrous beasts and shrouded in poisonous miasma. Ning Fan, a poor student from the Lower City, becomes a wanderer who takes on high-risk jobs to earn money in order to save his mother. From then on, he steps into an endless killing field, leading his team to defy fate and ultimately shatter the heavenly ladder, determined to burn away the cage of destiny with a prairie fire.
